The importance of fairy tales for children’s emotional development

Abstract

This study investigated the role of fairy tales and children’s stories in the emotional and psychological development of children, based on the analysis by Bettelheim (2021) and on the contribution of other authors on the value of these narratives in children’s education. The objective was to explore how these narratives provide, in addition to entertainment, insights into emotional and psychological issues and how they can be used in educational practice to support cognitive and emotional development. The study was configured as an experience report with children in Early Childhood Education at a school in the city of Caucaia-CE. The text addressed how critical analysis and discussion of these stories in the classroom promote social and cognitive development, facilitating the internalization of cultural concepts and values.
