popular culture in early childhood education

Abstract

This report reflects on the potential of popular culture in early childhood education and presents an experience that helps to understand the ways in which this form of expression can be transformed into a pedagogical tool. During our conversation circles, we discovered that one of the group’s favorite songs was “Boi da cara preta”. We focus our attention on the figure of the ox, which is, in fact, the character that fascinates and arouses curiosity. As a theoretical foundation, we used the writings of Walter Benjamin (2009), Bernard Charlot (2013), Paulo Freire (1996), Jorge Larrosa (2019), BNCC (2018) and the CEI Almerinda de Albuquerque Pedagogical Proposal (2024). We concluded that the continuous exercise of learning to listen revealed to us how necessary it is for teaching practice to speak with children and not for children. We note that it is the school's duty to provide children with access to cultural goods, regardless of their social contexts.
