Abstract

Introduction: Low back pain is a major public health problem, associated with functional disability and high social costs. The Mat Pilates method has been recognized for strengthening, improving posture, flexibility, and breathing, while promoting lumbar stabilization. Objective: To report the academic experience of observing a group Mat Pilates program for participants with low back pain. Methodology: This is a descriptive and analytical experience report conducted at a physical therapy clinic/school. The program lasted 11 weeks and lasted 50 minutes. Four women, aged 24 to 75, participated. It included a warm-up, Mat Pilates exercises, and a cool-down. Results: There was a reduction in low back pain, improved function, stability, and participant engagement. For the students, the experience as observers favored critical reflection on the method's implementation and clinical applicability. Conclusion: Pilates proved effective in managing low back pain and a relevant training resource, bringing practice closer to physical therapy training.
