Pork meat occupies a central position in Brazilian exports, with China being one of the largest importers of Brazilian products. In this scenario, Rio Grande do Sul stands out as one of Brazil's primary production and exporting hubs, ranking second nationally in export volume. Given growing international demand and competition in highly competitive markets, it is important to analyze whether Rio Grande do Sul's pork products are protected by intellectual property instruments. This technical note aims to map brands and patents related to pork production in Rio Grande do Sul. The data collection to verify the existence of brands and patents associated with pork production and processing indicated that only 8 of the 30 pork brands mapped in the state have a consolidated presence in the international market. Furthermore, sixteen mapped patents cover a diverse range of innovations for the state's pork sector. The results demonstrate that Rio Grande do Sul's production chain is robust, but the use of intellectual property is still restricted to some companies and cooperatives. The public policies development to encourage the protection of intellectual property assets in the innovation process within Rio Grande do Sul's pork production chain. Mapping these assets is the first step for the sector to increase its global competitiveness, transforming productive advantages into legal and commercial exclusivity through intellectual property registrations.
