The Juruá Valley, in Acre, stands out for its significant production of cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) and its main derivative, flour, an essential element for food security, culture, and the local economy. Recognized as the National Capital of Cassava Flour, the region faces challenges in standardization and product protection, despite the Geographical Indication obtained in 2017. In this context, this Technical Note aims to analyze the cassava flour value chain in the Juruá Valley Citizenship Territory, focusing on the application of Intellectual Property, especially Geographical Indications (GIs), with the purpose of fostering economic valorization, cultural preservation, and the strengthening of family farming. The methodology adopted was based on a qualitative approach, with documentary and bibliographic research in official sources (IBGE, Embrapa, INPI, and regional agencies), in addition to the analysis of data on production, cultural aspects, and the legal protection of flour and cultivars. The results show moderate growth in production, recognition of “Farinha de Cruzeiro do Sul” as a GI since 2017, and the coexistence of traditional and improved cultivars that ensure productivity and quality, although standardization and stronger governance are still required. Finally, it is concluded that Intellectual Property is strategic to protect and add value to cassava flour and its cultivars, promoting sustainable development, cultural preservation, and expanding opportunities for family farmers.
