The scarcity of availability and the increase in demand for fresh water in the world, several treatment techniques have been developed, such as the use of membranes. Thus, the treatment of water by reverse osmosis appears as an alternative to obtain drinking water. The present study used the Scopus database to map publications of articles on the topic, using the words “reverse osmosis”, “drinking water” and “water treatment”. The results provided the mapping of the most used words (water and drinking), years with the highest number of publications (2019 and 2021), countries with more research on the topic (United States and Spain) and greater treatment purpose (desalinization and arsenic).
