This study presents an analysis of the state's agricultural sector, focusing on intellectual property. It points out that Mato Grosso is one of the main agricultural producers in Brazil, responsible for around 21% of the gross value of national agricultural production. This performance is driven by a series of factors, highlighting the development and intensive use of technological innovations. The objective was to carry out a diagnosis of the potential to generate innovations, and due protection of intellectual property such as cultivars, brands, patents and geographical indications originating from the ecosystem of agribusiness in Mato Grosso. In this descriptive and exploratory qualitative research, documentary and bibliographic techniques were used, with database search, to identify the actors of the innovation ecosystem, research and development activities, and industrial property mechanisms (patent, brand and GI) and sui generis protection (cultivars) applied to agribusiness in the State of Mato Grosso. The state's innovation ecosystem has been consolidating in recent years with a growing number of startups, which drive the development of new technologies for agribusiness. With regard to intellectual property, the technical note highlights the role of public and private institutions, which contribute to intellectual property and research carried out in the state.
