Abstract

The solid waste Cooperatives offer alternatives to help solve environmental problems by reducing the number of solid waste in the environment we live in and designating a better chance of life for people who are looking for work in this activity by finding a means of survival. Even the management and recycling of solid waste being a well discussed topic among researchers, is still a difficulty faced by the Brazilian government. Thus, this study aims at analyzing the Unirenda strategically, identifying the internal characteristics of Unirenda, analyzing the external variables and linking internal and external aspects of Unirenda to define strategies for action. Regarding methodological procedures, the research is descriptive, using qualitative analysis. From the results, we highlight strengths as strategic location, mix of recyclable materials, exclusive partnership with public agencies. The weakness is the lack of financial resources (capital), high taxes. A little promotion of recycling, breach of agreements, constitute threats. Among the opportunities identified time in the market, few competitors in the region, resuming collection. These data are unlike those found in similar studies in large cities, where the population recycles a cluster number of recyclable materials, enabling a higher income for their members.
